ABOUT ADOLFO

My name is Adolfo Alvarez, and I’m running for Student Body President to bring a fresh perspective and redirection to our student government. I’m a third-year Global Studies and Media and Journalism double major from Sinaloa and Guerrero, Mexico, with a passion for advocacy for sustainable development and higher education development.

My friends often describe me as a "people person," and I strive to bring that same energy and connection to everything I do. I’m also a proud parent of two—an orange cat and a syrian hamster—who occasionally make surprise appearances in my Zoom meetings.

I believe that strong leadership comes from a combination of quality decision-making and lived experiences. Representatives can lead with empathy and impact by understanding the real challenges people face. I grew up in a low-income family, and came to Carolina as a newly emancipated immigrant to the United States.  I’ve learned firsthand the importance of resilience, community, and meaningful representation.

It is true that I am new to student government, but I believe that is my #1 QUALIFICATION

Coming in with a fresh perspective allows me to approach challenges without being bound by “the way things have always been done.”

Over the past 12 weeks, as I’ve prepared for this campaign, I’ve met with countless student organization leaders who’ve shared their perspectives on the need for a shift in how student government engages with different groups on campus. My leadership at Carolina has always been rooted in one core value: putting our community first. I’m ready to bring that same focus and perspective to our student leadership.

I don’t believe the qualifications for the role of Student Body President are defined by past titles in student government. Instead, they’re about the ability to deliver meaningful results to stakeholders, and that’s exactly what I’m ready to bring to the table.
